A derelict Soviet building demolished in Bauska to build a library

A new project has been started this week in Bauska – construction of Bauska Central Library. It will be built at 17 Baznīcas Street, on the site of the musical school built back in the Soviet era, which is being demolished starting from this week.

The construction project is being implemented by the municipality of Bauska, with co-funding from the European Union as part of the project "Establishment of Business Support Library Cross Border Network".

The 1st stage of the construction project – demolition work – is scheduled to be completed by mid-January 2017 and the amount of demolition is estimated at 1,400 cubic metres. "Construction of the building was commenced back in the Soviet era, but it was not put into use. As a result of years of neglect, the structures have become damaged and dangerous to the public," said the chairman of Demontāža, Mārtiņš Mālnieks.
