On 9 August, the Administrative District Court renewed the construction permit issued by the construction board to demolish the premises of the former Aurora stocking factory at 4 Cieceres Street Riga, representative of Riga City Construction Board Edgars Butāns told db.lv.
According to him, the decision of the district court cannot be appealed.
It is known that the demolition work has already commenced. Consequently, the historical stocking factory is being razed to the ground.
The demolition work is carried out by Demontāža.
As reported, the demolition work has previously been suspended for a variety of reasons. Objections had been raised by sworn attorney Sandis Bērtaitis, and, prior to that, there were problems with documents.
The buildings were originally commissioned in 1900.
On 23 September 2016, the State Inspection for Heritage Protection received a request for an opinion regarding the possibility of demolishing structures of the former Aurora stocking factory at 4 Cieceres Street, Riga. These structures were not included in the list of state-protected cultural heritage, therefore the Inspection did not take a decision about the demolition of the buildings. However, they were located within the Āgenskalns protected construction area defined by Riga City Council where the building protection conditions are under the control of the municipality. Specialists of the inspection noted that the production building and the administration building are culturally valued eclecticism buildings representing the architecture of the industrial heritage of Pārdaugava and recommended the owner of the building to consider the possibility of preserving them, conserving the buildings and integrating the historic construction volumes into future construction.
